How to set a minimum order for local delivery on Shopify
Short answer: Require a higher order value only when the customer chooses local delivery, while keeping pickup and shipping unrestricted. In Checkpost, choose “Minimum for local delivery” from Templates, adjust the values, test it, then save and enable the rule.
The problem
Delivering a single coffee across town isn't viable, but you still want small pickup and shipped orders. A minimum that only applies to local delivery handles both.
How to set it up
- Install Checkpost from the Shopify App Store.
- Open Templates and choose Minimum for local delivery.
- Set the local delivery minimum.
- Use Try this rule to test a sample cart, then click Save rule.
The rule
Checkout is blocked when all of these conditions are true:
- Delivery method type is any of LOCAL
- Cart subtotal is less than 40
Shoppers see: “Local delivery requires a minimum order of $40.” at the top of checkout, once they reach checkout.

}Where this rule works
These are cart and checkout validations, including supported accelerated checkouts. They are current-cart policies; they do not track previous purchases of a SKU. Shopify excludes POS, recurring subscription orders and native pre-order/Try Before You Buy flows from this API. See Shopify's validation compatibility.
Tips
- The rule only applies once the shopper selects local delivery.
- Mention the pickup alternative in the message.
Can you do this without an app?
Shopify's local delivery settings support minimum order prices per delivery zone. Use this rule if you need the minimum to also depend on products, customers or other conditions.
FAQ
Can different areas have different minimums?
Yes. Add a postal code condition and create one rule per area.
Does the minimum include delivery fees?
No, it uses the subtotal. Switch to "Cart total" to include them.
